John Heath is a native of Waycross, GA. He started playing music in
Tallahasse, FL during his freshman year of High School at the age of
fifteen. On returning to Waycross in 1989 to finish High School he
began playing blues and rock with friends from his childhood who then
excelled at their instruments. John credits players such as Les Dell,
Mickey O'Brien, Brad Wilson, Joey Walthour, and especially Brad Williams
and Keith McAlum with pushing him as a player to really lay down
some "mean licks" and to develop a psychedelic approach to melodic
phrasings. This all happened at Brad Williams house on Booth St, and
there were never any live shows only parties.
It wasn't until 1997 when John finally began to offer his music to the
general public. While enrolled at school at Southern Polytechnic
State University he began playing open-mics at Eddies Attic in
Decatur, GA. "I knew college was not leading me in the right
direction, I needed to live an artist lifestyle, write a bunch more
songs" he states.
In the summer of 1997 John moved to Athens and debuted his first band
COOL THANG at a large outdoor party. This band featured Rob Hearndon
of KRILL and Kain Stanley of Cosmic Charlie. In 2000 he formed
APPALACHIA, an acoustic ensemble featuring Kristin Williard on flute,
nd Mark Garner on hammer dulcimer.
TREMBLING EARTH was founded in 2001 and maintained a rotating line up
of musicians. John derived this name from "Okefenokee Swamp" (located
near Waycross) which translates to "Land of the Trembling Earth".
TREMBLING EARTH played shows in and around Athens from the Summer of 2001 to the Fall of 2002.
In 2004 John reappeared playing solo showswith a whole new catalog of songs. He debuted
some of them at Athfest2004. By the end of the year he began
experimenting with loop effects. This allowed him to do solo shows with
multiple guitar parts, which was a success. He started playing solo shows with his Strat which made his shows more of a Rock n' Roll performance. Starting in January 2005,
he went from playing pizza joints to playing the Georgia Theatre in
March.
In 2005 John Heath relocated to Michigan and toured via Greyhound bus, taxi, and ferry boat. Thus continuing his legacy of
engaging songwriting and phenomenal guitar work. After playing open jams at TC's Speakeasy in Ypsilanti, MI, John made aquaintences of various other musicians. By October 2005 John put together a new line-up for TREMBLING EARTH.
Currently TREMBLING EARTH is playing shows on a regular basis in the Mid-West. Click on SHOW DATES for more info!
